These are stand alone stories that take place in the same alternate universe, one that is largely true to JK Rowling's Harry Potter books with a notable exception or two: Severus and Lavender survived the Battle of Hogwarts. The stories weren't written in chronological order (and aren't meant to be read in chronological order for that matter; seriously, it ruins a bunch of surprises), although the dates at which they occur have been included in case you just can't help yourself. 😉 They can be read on their own, any necessary non-canonical scene setting information from a previous story is provided. The most recent entries appear after the index on the journal's main page, where the index is 'stickied' to the top.

9. "falling & soaring" - WIP NEW!!
Summer and Autumn 1998. Post-Battle of Hogwarts, our heroes attempt to come to terms in the aftermath of the war as they return to the scene of the battle for a new school year. Hermione develops a crush, Harry and Ginny fall in love, although not with one another, Ron continues to struggle, Neville tries to grow into a new role, and Severus and Draco endeavour to find their places in a very changed world with trouble brewing just down the next corridor.
9.1 "falling & soaring part 1, past is prologue" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny. Summer 1998. Harry, Hermione and Ron are struggling in the aftermath of the war. Not everyone is well equipped to come to terms with their situations.
9.2 "falling & soaring part 2, action" (LJ / DW). Harry, Ron, Draco, Pansy Parkinson, the Bloody Baron. 12 September, 1998. Harry and Ron return from an evening spent finding some comfort flying around the pitch to blow off steam. Others in the castle aren't nearly as lucky.
9.3 "falling & soaring part 3, administration" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Minerva McGonagall, the Fat Lady, Ron. 12 September, 1998. Harry tells Hermione what happened. Naturally she doesn't feel they can leave things at that.
9.4 "falling & soaring part 4, observations" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Minerva McGonagall, assorted ghosts, a smattering of portraits. 12 - 13 September, 1998. Exhausted by the events of the evening, or maybe it's Hermione's late night debate with the Headmistress, Harry tries to get some sleep in Professor McGonagall's office while the witches work out how best to protect the students. Fortunately others prove more willing to assist them.
9.5 "falling & soaring part 5, avoidance" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Minerva McGonagall, Phineas Nigellus Black, Severus Snape, the Fat Lady. 13 September, 1998. Harry, Hermione, Phineas and Minerva aren't looking forward to any of the conversations they're likely to have. Some prove more avoidant than others.
9.6 "falling & soaring part 6, hissing" (LJ / DW). Severus Snape, Draco, Hermione, Minerva McGonagall, Neville, Harry, Pansy, Ella Wilkins, Harper Hutchinson, Daphne Greengrass, Ginny, Luna. 13 September, 1998. Severus' and Draco's days aren't going quite to plan.
9.7 "falling & soaring part 7, roaring" (LJ / DW). Ginny, Harry, Ron, Neville, Seamus, Lavender, Hermione. 13 September, 1998. Neville and Ginny are able to cheer each other up. Harry, Ron and Ginny exchange information about the events of the last night, and a secret comes to light.
9.8 "falling & soaring part 8, fighting" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dean Thomas, Ginny, the Fat Lady, Draco. 14 September, 1998. Harry and Hermione teach each other a few things, as good friends do; Ginny and Ron, on the other hand, aren't likely to learn a bloody thing from one another. And Dean, for his part, is finding life in the tower... confronting.
9.9 "falling & soaring part 9, musing" (LJ / DW). Harry, Draco, Ginny, Neville, Hermione, Theo Nott, Pansy, Daphne Greengrass, Harper Hutchinson. 14 September, 1998. Ginny has news for Neville. Harry derives some pleasure from teasing Malfoy and spends some time thinking about Hermione.
9.10 "falling & soaring part 10, scheming" (LJ / DW). Draco, Harry, Hermione, Blaise Zabini, Minerva McGonagall, Theo Nott, Pansy, Daphne Greengrass, Harper Hutchinson, Lavender, Parvati, Fay Dunbar, Terry Boot, Luna, Ernie Macmillan. 15 - 17 September, 1998. Draco, Harry, and Hermione are adopting some unusual techniques to deal with one another. Mostly they just succeed in convincing the others they're odd.
9.11 "falling & soaring part 11, sneaking" (LJ / DW). Severus, Phineas Nigellus Black, Hermione, Harry, Minerva, Draco. 17 September, 1998. Severus and Phineas try to come up with a better way to keep an eye on the Prefects, Minerva has had about enough of the students today, but unfortunately she still needs to keep an eye out as well, and Hermione needs to ask Harry for a favour.
9.12 "falling & soaring part 12, stalking" (LJ / DW). Draco, Pansy, Harry, Hermione, Ella Wilkins, Harper Hutchinson. 17 September 1998. A handful of Snakes and Moggies make their ways through the castle corridors late in the evening.
9.13 "falling & soaring part 13, sorting" (LJ / DW). Hermione, Harry, Draco, Pansy, Severus, the Bloody Baron, Ella Wilkins, Harper Hutchinson. 17 September, 1998. Harry and Hermione follow the seventh and eighth year Slytherin Prefects on their rounds. Shockingly, it doesn't go as smoothly as Hermione had hoped. Severus has similar ideas about keeping his Prefects safe but rather more success in his undertakings.
9.14 "falling & soaring part 14" (LJ / DW). Severus, the Bloody Baron, Phineas Nigellus, Minerva, Draco, Pansy, Daphne, Ella Wilkins, Harper Hutchinson, Hunter Hutchinson, Harry, Hermione. 17 September, 1998. The Bloody Baron has some things to explain to Severus, who still has a lot of work to do. He isn't the only one, and Minerva, too, is casting the midnight Lumos. Phineas Nigellus lends both of them some company. Meanwhile the Slytherin Prefects and the Harry and Hermione return to their respective homes. Daphne Greengrass and Hunter Hutchinson have stayed up waiting.
9.15 "falling & soaring part 15, morning" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Lavender, Fay Dunbar, Dhanesh Devi, Minerva. 18 September, 1998. Harry, Hermione, Ron and Ginny get ready to face another day in their final year at Hogwarts. NEW!!

Severus, Minerva, Hagrid, the Bloody Baron, Ginny, Seamus, Draco, Pansy, Harper Hutchinson, Hermione, Harry, Daphne Greengrass, Theo. 18 September, 1998. Severus has mostly kept to himself this term, not that all the extra work Minerva had assigned him probably wouldn't have seen to it anyway, but what choice he has in the matter has led him to self-isolate. So this morning is quite the departure, and a largely pleasant one at that. Meanwhile Hermione tries Pansy's nerves, but the Slytherins know how to amuse themselves. Minerva and Argus are having rotten mornings, and Ginny and Seamus think they are too, but are probably lacking somewhat in perspective. Misery, it would seem, is at least passingly fond of company, and the new Headmistress is in a position to do something about it. NEW!!

Ginny isn't having a good morning, Ron isn't enjoying his much either, while Hermione is annoying pretty much everyone, the siblings first and foremost. Hestia comes into her own, as 'Vati struggles with the green eyed monster. Pansy makes a change, capturing Harry's imagination. Draco gets an unwelcome surprise. Professor Flitwick struggles with his enormous N.E.W.T.s Charms class. NEW!!
9.18 "falling & soaring part 18 a & b, seething" Part A (LJ / DW) Part B (LJ / DW). Harper Hutchinson, Daphne, Ginny, Ella Wilkins, Draco, Neville, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Professor Sprout, Seamus, Flora Carrow, Jack Sloper, Dhanesh Devi. 18 September, 1998. Herbology is lively. Harry has a questionable idea, Ron has a terrible one. Ella flirts with a stroke, while Draco has a fit. Flora knows her stuff, Harper has a plan, and probably a crush; Ginny's very likely developing one, too. Neville has cause to mentally run through most of the curses he knows, magical and otherwise, none of which helps. Professor Sprout may not treat all her students equally, but several of them at least have a good laugh before dinner. NEW!!

Ginny and Neville make plans to eat together, Draco has a spot of fun with Potter, whether he sees it that way is another matter, Hermione's evening looks up at least briefly, and Lavender has an unexpected encounter. Neville meets Ginny at his for dinner, and what promises to be a lovely evening, Hermione's dinner is a lot less appealing, to say nothing of unflattering, Draco finds himself unexpectedly pressed into action, with the rest of the Slytherins not far behind, the others at their table grapple with some unexpected news, Hestia's inner wolf has a chance to shine, Harry receives some unwanted attention he suspects he can blame Ron for, and Ron comes up with some new plans he finds rather more enjoyable than the original ones. Exhausted by the events of the evening, or maybe it's Hermione's late night debate with the Headmistress, Harry tries to get some sleep in Professor McGonagall's office while the witches work out how best to protect the students. Fortunately others prove more willing to assist them.
9.5 "falling & soaring part 5, avoidance" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Minerva McGonagall, Phineas Nigellus Black, Severus Snape, the Fat Lady. 13 September, 1998. Harry, Hermione, Phineas and Minerva aren't looking forward to any of the conversations they're likely to have. Some prove more avoidant than others.

9.7 "falling & soaring part 7, roaring" (LJ / DW). Ginny, Harry, Ron, Neville, Seamus, Lavender, Hermione. 13 September, 1998. Neville and Ginny are able to cheer each other up. Harry, Ron and Ginny exchange information about the events of the last night, and a secret comes to light.
9.8 "falling & soaring part 8, fighting" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dean Thomas, Ginny, the Fat Lady, Draco. 14 September, 1998. Harry and Hermione teach each other a few things, as good friends do; Ginny and Ron, on the other hand, aren't likely to learn a bloody thing from one another. And Dean, for his part, is finding life in the tower... confronting.
9.9 "falling & soaring part 9, musing" (LJ / DW). Harry, Draco, Ginny, Neville, Hermione, Theo Nott, Pansy, Daphne Greengrass, Harper Hutchinson. 14 September, 1998. Ginny has news for Neville. Harry derives some pleasure from teasing Malfoy and spends some time thinking about Hermione.
9.10 "falling & soaring part 10, scheming" (LJ / DW). Draco, Harry, Hermione, Blaise Zabini, Minerva McGonagall, Theo Nott, Pansy, Daphne Greengrass, Harper Hutchinson, Lavender, Parvati, Fay Dunbar, Terry Boot, Luna, Ernie Macmillan. 15 - 17 September, 1998. Draco, Harry, and Hermione are adopting some unusual techniques to deal with one another. Mostly they just succeed in convincing the others they're odd.
9.11 "falling & soaring part 11, sneaking" (LJ / DW). Severus, Phineas Nigellus Black, Hermione, Harry, Minerva, Draco. 17 September, 1998. Severus and Phineas try to come up with a better way to keep an eye on the Prefects, Minerva has had about enough of the students today, but unfortunately she still needs to keep an eye out as well, and Hermione needs to ask Harry for a favour.
9.12 "falling & soaring part 12, stalking" (LJ / DW). Draco, Pansy, Harry, Hermione, Ella Wilkins, Harper Hutchinson. 17 September 1998. A handful of Snakes and Moggies make their ways through the castle corridors late in the evening.
9.13 "falling & soaring part 13, sorting" (LJ / DW). Hermione, Harry, Draco, Pansy, Severus, the Bloody Baron, Ella Wilkins, Harper Hutchinson. 17 September, 1998. Harry and Hermione follow the seventh and eighth year Slytherin Prefects on their rounds. Shockingly, it doesn't go as smoothly as Hermione had hoped. Severus has similar ideas about keeping his Prefects safe but rather more success in his undertakings.
9.14 "falling & soaring part 14" (LJ / DW). Severus, the Bloody Baron, Phineas Nigellus, Minerva, Draco, Pansy, Daphne, Ella Wilkins, Harper Hutchinson, Hunter Hutchinson, Harry, Hermione. 17 September, 1998. The Bloody Baron has some things to explain to Severus, who still has a lot of work to do. He isn't the only one, and Minerva, too, is casting the midnight Lumos. Phineas Nigellus lends both of them some company. Meanwhile the Slytherin Prefects and the Harry and Hermione return to their respective homes. Daphne Greengrass and Hunter Hutchinson have stayed up waiting.
9.15 "falling & soaring part 15, morning" (LJ / DW). Harry, Hermione, Ron, Ginny, Lavender, Fay Dunbar, Dhanesh Devi, Minerva. 18 September, 1998. Harry, Hermione, Ron and Ginny get ready to face another day in their final year at Hogwarts. NEW!!
9.16 "falling & soaring part 16, slipping" (LJ / DW). Severus, Minerva, Hagrid, the Bloody Baron, Ginny, Seamus, Draco, Pansy, Harper Hutchinson, Hermione, Harry, Daphne Greengrass, Theo. 18 September, 1998. Severus has mostly kept to himself this term, not that all the extra work Minerva had assigned him probably wouldn't have seen to it anyway, but what choice he has in the matter has led him to self-isolate. So this morning is quite the departure, and a largely pleasant one at that. Meanwhile Hermione tries Pansy's nerves, but the Slytherins know how to amuse themselves. Minerva and Argus are having rotten mornings, and Ginny and Seamus think they are too, but are probably lacking somewhat in perspective. Misery, it would seem, is at least passingly fond of company, and the new Headmistress is in a position to do something about it. NEW!!

Hermione, Ginny, Parvati Patil, Harry, Ron, Draco, Pansy, Hestia Carrow, Professor Flitwick, Seamus, Lavender, Theo, Blaise, Valerie Vaisey, Flora Carrow, Sheldon Shafiq, Ernie Macmillan, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Susan Bones, Hannah Abbott, Edgar Martins. 18 September, 1998. Ginny isn't having a good morning, Ron isn't enjoying his much either, while Hermione is annoying pretty much everyone, the siblings first and foremost. Hestia comes into her own, as 'Vati struggles with the green eyed monster. Pansy makes a change, capturing Harry's imagination. Draco gets an unwelcome surprise. Professor Flitwick struggles with his enormous N.E.W.T.s Charms class. NEW!!
9.18 "falling & soaring part 18 a & b, seething" Part A (LJ / DW) Part B (LJ / DW). Harper Hutchinson, Daphne, Ginny, Ella Wilkins, Draco, Neville, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Professor Sprout, Seamus, Flora Carrow, Jack Sloper, Dhanesh Devi. 18 September, 1998. Herbology is lively. Harry has a questionable idea, Ron has a terrible one. Ella flirts with a stroke, while Draco has a fit. Flora knows her stuff, Harper has a plan, and probably a crush; Ginny's very likely developing one, too. Neville has cause to mentally run through most of the curses he knows, magical and otherwise, none of which helps. Professor Sprout may not treat all her students equally, but several of them at least have a good laugh before dinner. NEW!!

Ginny and Neville make plans to eat together, Draco has a spot of fun with Potter, whether he sees it that way is another matter, Hermione's evening looks up at least briefly, and Lavender has an unexpected encounter. Neville meets Ginny at his for dinner, and what promises to be a lovely evening, Hermione's dinner is a lot less appealing, to say nothing of unflattering, Draco finds himself unexpectedly pressed into action, with the rest of the Slytherins not far behind, the others at their table grapple with some unexpected news, Hestia's inner wolf has a chance to shine, Harry receives some unwanted attention he suspects he can blame Ron for, and Ron comes up with some new plans he finds rather more enjoyable than the original ones.
